Reginald Tate

State Senator Reginald Tate was born September 14, 1954 in Memphis, TN.  After graduating from Hamilton High School, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in architectural engineering technology from the University of Memphis.  In 2006, Senator Tate was elected to represent District 33 in the Tennessee Senate. Even though he was unopposed in the General Election, he received over 41,000 votes.

Senator Tate serves as vice chairman of the Education Committee and is a member of the Commerce, Labor and Agriculture Committee, Fiscal Review Committee, Select Oversight Committee on Business Taxes, Cover Tennessee Advisory Committee and the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation. He has also been appointed to serve as vice chairman of the Health Disparities Commission.

Senator Tate served six years as a member of the Shelby County Democratic Party Executive Committee, representing House District 85 and Senate District 33.  He is a board member of the Cocaine, Alcohol and Awareness Program (CAPP, Inc). An organization offering a wide variety of programs to a diverse client base, CAAP, Inc. is one of the largest behavioral health providers in Tennessee.

Senator Tate is president and chief executive officer of Accent by Design.  He is the father of four and a member of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, which was the first African-American congregation in Memphis to belong to the Brotherhood of Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ).
